Jasper
National Park, the jewel of the Canadian Rockies, is located
3 1/2 hours west of Alberta's capital city, Edmonton. The Town
of Jasper is located 45 minutes west of the Park gates.
Jasper National
Park was designated the world's largest dark sky preserve (an
area where no artificial lighting is visible and the natural
glow of the stars dominate the landscape) in April, 2011.
While
visiting Edmonton, take a day and discover Jasper. See a wide
variety of wildlife ... have a picnic beside the Athabasca River
... tour Jasper Park Lodge ... marvel at the natural beauty
of Maligne Canyon, Pyramid Lake and Mount Edith Cavell ... go
shopping in the Townsite's many stores.
In the 1920's, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a guest at the Jasper Park Lodge. The words he wrote in the visitors' log say it all ...
"A New York man reaches heaven, and as he passed the gate, Saint Peter said, "I am sure you will like it."
A Toronto man followed and Saint Peter said "It will be a great change for you."
Finally, there came a man from the Jasper Park Lodge: "I am afraid," said Saint Peter, "that you will be disappointed."
